News and Information From

Reid Hamilton Insurance Brokers

Duncan Woodcock

In the last Newsletter I was able to report some changes to a number of Reid Hamilton staff roles and I'm happy to say that everyone has settled into their new positions very well indeed.

Actually, it has been a fairly quiet winter this time. We had a little flurry of storm damage early in the year, but otherwise things have been fairly damp and dismal, not the sort of weather to precipitate insurance claims – whatever happened to proper winters?

At the end of February I handed in the dissertation for my MA at Lancaster University (all 26,917 words of it – an number I will not forget in a hurry!) and I've now got to wait until May to find out if I have passed or not... fingers crossed.

In December we completed 12 months' membership of Broker Network and this has given us access to much wider markets and products than before, which I hope many of you may have benefited from. For the first time in many years we have entered 2007 without any major changes or initiatives on the horizon, although those of you who tune in may have noticed that we have launched a campaign of Bay Radio advertising, aimed at bringing out brand to a wider audience. If you have heard the ads, I'd be interested to know what you think.

I wish you all the best of good health and fortune in 2007 and thank you for the support you give the Reid Hamilton team with tour business.

Congratulations to Fiona

Reid Hamilton team exam successes continue with Fiona Barton gaining the Chartered Insurance Institute Cert CII qualification in November. Fiona has decided to go on to study the next level of qualification and we wish her every success with that. Eve Bennett, Carrie McIntosh and Sarah Lee are also currently studying for CII qualifications, in addition to the regular training all our staff receive in the workplace.

Reid Hamilton Makes the Front Page!

In February the local charity, Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service, was subjected to the callous theft of £600 worth of brand-new equipment and it turned out that it did not have any insurance cover for the premises where this was being stored. When Duncan read about this in the Citizen newspaper it was immediately decided that Reid Hamilton would make good the loss, and we presented the charity with a cheque for £750. Mark is seen here presenting the cheque to Islay Watson, the Project Manager of Lancaster & district Homeless Action Service. What we were not expecting, however, was to find ourselves occupying the whole of the Citizen's front page the following week!

Lancaster Homeless Action relies entirely upon charitable donations and receives very little support from the local government, despite providing a much needed service for Lancaster's homeless. The charity needs your support and is also currently seeking additional trustees, so if you feel able to give a little of your time to attend bi-monthly meetings, please contact Duncan or Mark (who has since become a trustee himself) who can tell you what is involved and put you in touch with the charity.
